“Sound-based anxiety management” [fr] modulation sonore de l’anxiété

Project objective _ Reduce the need for medication-based anxiolytics during moments of crisis in psychiatric care.

Research subject _ Explore the potential of sound and music as a source of comfort for inpatients in psychiatric care units. With partners (Pierre Navarron, Perception and Sound Design team at STMS IRCAM, APHP-Sainte Anne), elaborate a state-of-the-art background of existing works and methods to reduce anxiety through sound.

[EN] If we start by reading the diagram from the bottom, we first have the user input. This input is associated with a data capture method (objective or subjective). Capturing the input enables the mapping stage, during which we decide how the captured information can be transformed into a sensation or, for example, into a sonification parameter (frequency, tempo, etc.). Mapping raises certain questions: How do we determine the influence of inputs on content creation? What effect do we want to induce in the patient?

[EN] The purpose of this diagram is to show that each step in the loop raises many questions about the experience of the system. In this more complete version, we have also included a step representing the feedback loop.

Today, the work continues in the framework of the Psy-son project. See more here.
